Drought in the Rhône: "crisis" level on the western half of the department

By order of 10 August 2026, the Prefect of the Rhône placed the watersheds of the western half of the department in a situation of "crisis" drought, and the communes along the Saône in "enhanced alert", a decision confirmed in the update of 22 September 2026. In crisis zones, water resources are primarily reserved for drinking water and sanitary and safety purposes: watering of green areas and filling of private swimming pools are prohibited. Offences are punishable up to €1,500 for an individual and €7,500 for a legal person.

Succession: Donations received by a renouncing parent are not opposed to grandchildren

The Court of Cassation, in a judgment of 8 July 2026, ruled that when an heir renounces the succession, the donations he had received from the deceased less than 15 years before the death must not be taken into account in calculating the inheritance rights of his children coming by representation. In the case, the administration demanded that grandchildren be remedied by €333,857 plus €20,699 in interest, i.e. €354,556 in total, which the High Court dismissed.
