Background
Bronchiolite is an epidemic viral respiratory infection that affects nearly 30% of infants under 2 years of age every winter. Most often benign, however, it may be severe in babies under 2 months of age and may require hospitalization. Two prevention tools are available: the Beyfortus monoclonal antibodies (approved in 2022) and the Abrysvo vaccine (approved in 2023).
Why it's important
The shift from a 30% to 65% refund significantly reduces the remaining burden on families prior to the winter season. Parents, especially those who settle in France, do not always know these rights to prevention. Understanding the rules of care makes it possible to avoid unnecessary expenses.
What Changes
Since 31 August, the refund rate for Beyfortus and Abrysvo has increased from 30% to 65%. The Beyfortus administered directly to maternity remains 100% covered, without any advance fee. Abrysvo is 100% covered as part of pregnancy monitoring.
Useful details
- Beyfortus (monoclonal antibodies): one injection; protection from 6th day after injection and for at least 5 months; approved in 2022.
- Abrysvo (pregnant women's vaccine): administered between the end of the 7th months and the end of the 8th months of pregnancy; maternal antibodies pass through the placenta and immunize the child from birth to its 6 months; approved in 2023.
- Reimbursement rate: currently 30 %; from 31 August, 65 %; Beyfortus in maternity: 100 % without advance fee; Abrysvo in pregnancy: 100 %.
- Bronchiolite affects close to 30 % of infants under the age of 2 every winter; babies under the age of 2 months are at risk of severe forms.
- From the first day of the 6th month of pregnancy, pregnant women receive 100 treatment for all their refundable medical expenses, including those not related to pregnancy.
