Background
This change concerns all national school and professional examinations in France and will be applied from the 2027 session. The details of the new scales have been published by the official Public Service portal, on the basis of guidance from the Ministry of National Education.
Why it's important
The written mastery of French becomes a component officially noted in each event, which can influence the final result, especially for high-editorial tests. For students who are either immigrant or recently schooled in France, regular work on writing is becoming more important. However, the particular situation of candidates benefiting from arrangements linked to spelling and syntax standards is taken into account in the evaluation.
What Changes
As early as the 2027 session, a minimum of 2 points will be awarded to the proficiency of the language in each of the events, with a potentially higher weight according to the teachings. Four criteria will be assessed: spelling, syntax, lexicon and organization of reflection.
Useful details
- Starting with the 2027 session, 2 points will be dedicated to the editorial qualities of the candidate.
- Four criteria relating to the mastery of the French language: spelling; syntax and the construction of sentences; lexicon; formatting and organization of reflection.
- The rating will follow the scale: Very insufficient / Insufficient / Satisfactory / Very satisfactory.
- A minimum of 2 marks is given to the mastery of the language in each of the tests: mastery of spelling and syntactic standards, ability to formulate a clear reasoning and to use a correct and appropriate vocabulary.
- In addition to these 2 points, a higher weight can be assigned according to the teachings; for tests with a major editorial dimension, the average cannot be attributed to a failed copy on all aspects of language proficiency.
- For professional degrees, the clarity of the expression and the intelligibility of written productions are important expectations, in line with the requirements of professional communication specific to each trade.
