Who this guide is for

Section actions
  • Any person experiencing psychological difficulties
  • Close friends looking for support for someone in difficult situations
  • Foreigners in difficulty due to isolation or language barrier

To be prepared in advance

Section actions
  • Vital card or certificate of rights, if you have one
  • Two simple sentences to say how you feel: "I'm not well", "I need help"
  • Useful numbers if situation deteriorates: 3114, 15 and 112

Step-by-step procedure

Section actions
  1. 1If you think you're in danger or have suicidal thoughts, call 3114 right away. It is free, confidential and available 24 h/24. In case of immediate danger, call 15 or 112.
  2. 2Make an appointment with your doctor. Simply say how you feel: it is often the easiest way to start.
  3. 3If you are looking for a public solution, ask for a CMP (medical-psychological centre). The consultations are fully covered by the Sickness Insurance, but the delays can be long.
  4. 4If you prefer a liberal psychologist, look at my shrink support. Since the 15 June 2024, you can make an appointment directly with a contracted psychologist. The session costs 50 € and the Sickness Insurance pays 60 %.
  5. 5Between two appointments, note what changes. One sentence a day is often enough to see what's better or worse.

Common mistakes

Section actions
  • Waiting to be at the worst before asking for help.
  • Thinking that it is necessary to go through a private psychologist while the CMP or My shrink support can suffice.
  • Stay alone in the face of a suicidal crisis. In this case, the 3114, the 15 or the 112 should be called immediately.
