Who this guide is for

Section actions
  • Families enrolling a child for the first time in French school
  • New arrivals with school-age children (including college)
  • Parents of non-French-speaking children (needs UPE2A support)

To be prepared in advance

Section actions
  • Family Booklet
  • Proof of domicile — e.g. electricity bill or lease
  • Health diary with current vaccines
  • Old school certificates and school bulletins if the child changes school

Step-by-step procedure

Section actions
  1. 1First check the area school according to your address. It's the school card. This can be confirmed by the city hall or the academy's website.
  2. 2Place the documents in the town hall, at the school service. For the college, the procedure often goes through the Dasen or the guidance service.
  3. 3Retrieve the registration certificate. He is the one who confirms the assignment in the school.
  4. 4With this certificate, go to school to finish enrollment with the principal. That's the last step.
  5. 5Ask for the canteen, the extracurricular and the schedules right away. You will avoid running after the forms later.
  6. 6If the child does not speak French, say it from the beginning. The school will explain to you UPE2A and possible aids.

Common mistakes

Section actions
  • Drop out of your area without checking the school card.
  • Arrive without proof of residence or without complete health book.
  • Do not apply for UPE2A when the child needs support in French.
