- 1Recognize the signs: chronic fatigue, work cynicism, decreased efficiency, sleep disorders, physical symptoms (headedness, digestive disorders). Over several weeks, it's a signal.
- 2Consult a doctor (career doctor or work doctor) and describe your condition honestly. He may prescribe a stoppage of work, offering rest and daily allowances of the CPAM.
- 3Document the causes: if the burn-out is work-related (overload, harassment, conflicts), record them — mail, witnesses, e-mails. This is the basis for an occupational disease recognition or complaint.
- 4Report harassment or abnormal conditions to the employer and/or labour inspectorate. You are protected (article L4121-1 of the Labour Code — obligation to assess SPS).
- 5If the burn-out is recognized as an occupational disease (by the CPAM after declaration), you benefit from extensive rights: better compensation, protection against dismissal, care.
- 6Psychological help: consult a psychologist via the doctor (partly reimbursed), listening lines (Suicide Listens to 01 45 39 40 00, S.O.S. Friendship 09 72 39 40 50) or the occupational physician. In crisis, the 3114 (national suicide prevention line).
- 7Return to work: agree on arrangements with the occupational physician (partial resumption, change of duties). You are entitled to a return visit after a stop of 30 days or more.
Common mistakes

- Ignore the symptoms while waiting for it to pass — they get worse.
- Do not consult for fear of stigma — the stop protects and allows to blow.
- Do not document the causes — difficult then to prove the link with the work.
- Thinking that talking to colleagues is enough. Professional assistance is needed.
- Return to the same conditions without development — risk of relapse.
