French for the steps : A2 → B1 → B2

A2: first multi-year card; B1: first resident card

Since 1 January 2026, the first applications concerned require respectively A2 and B1. This is not a universal rule for any renewal or card type. Exemptions depend, inter alia, on title, age and health. Check proofs and waivers before paying an exam.

B2: naturalization

For applications subject to requirements 2026, B2 is required orally and in writing. Check admissible diploma and any exemptions. Language proof does not replace other naturalization conditions or civic knowledge requirements.

TCF IRN or DELF: check the purpose

The TCF provides a certificate of limited validity; the DELF is a level diploma. Test version, skills and accepted evidence count. In the France Éducation international directory, search Lyon, Grenoble, Chambéry or Annecy; confirm directly session, prices, accommodations and result.

Prepare: OFII, associations and practice

Ask the OFII about accessible language training in your CIR. Not all courses and exams are free: conditions according to program and situation. Ask the town hall or France Services for local sociolinguistic workshops. Work administrative vocabulary and short calls; the maps below take the Vitalpes glossary.

• Grenoble — UGA CUEF — DELF / DALF.
• Chambéry / Annecy — ACCESS USMB — TCF / DELF / DALF (confirm the place: a course in the city does not guarantee a session on site).
