- 1Identify your TER region: Each Regional Council sets rates and discounts. For Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes — on zou.mobi. Check the conditions on the site of the region.
- 2Subscription types: (1) weekly — 1 week, without auto renewal; (2) monthly — 1 months, auto renewal possible; (3) annual — 12 months (10–11 months paid, 1–2 free).
- 3Advantage card: (1) Advantage Young 18–27 — 49 €/year, discounts 25–50 %; (2) Advantage Family — for a child 4–12 years, discount 25 %; (3) Advantage Senior 60+ — 60 €/year, 25–50 %.
- 4Rates (for example, variables by region): monthly short distance 50–80 €, long distance 150–250 €. Young 26 — additional reduction of 50 %. Large families — 30–75 % by category (1–6 children).
- 5Online subscription: on the site of the region (zou.mobi for the AURA, iledefrance-mobilites.fr for the IDF) or at the station. Create an account, upload coins, choose the route. Card delivery: 1–2 weeks.
- 6Job applicants: when registering for Employment Pole — the certificate entitles 50–75 % reduction on TER (depending on the region). To renew all the 6 months during the renewal Pôle Emploi.
- 7Student fellows: free subscription in most regions. To be validated via the student social file (CROUS).
- 8Accumulation with the sustainable mobility package: the employer can refund up to 400 €/year for the bike, 600 € for carpooling (law LOM 2019). Check with HR.
- 9Cancellation: online on the account or at the station. Monthly — 10 days before the end of the month. Without notice — automatic renewal. Folder fees 5–10 € sometimes.
- 10Strike disruptions: in case of SNCF strikes announced — automatic refund after 30 minutes late for subscribers. Request on sncf-connect.com in 60 days.
Common mistakes

- Buy one ticket at each trip instead of a subscription — 2–3 times more expensive on regular trips.
- Do not renew student card — loss of right to discount.
- Do not ask for reimbursement in case of delay — hundreds of euros lost each year.
- Missing the demand for sustainable mobility packages from the employer — up to 600 €/year lost.
