Step-by-step procedure
Section actions
- 1Minor garlic: The pharmacist advises on mild symptoms (rhum, cough, mild pain, dysuria) and offers OTC medications. Faster and cheaper than a doctor.
- 2Prescription renewal: for chronic drugs (hypertension, diabetes, etc.), the pharmacist may extend the prescription for one month (up to 4 times per year) if the attending physician is not available. Vital card required.
- 3Vaccination: The pharmacist may administer influenza (≥ 16 years), VOCID-19, some others (BCG, HPV depending on location). By appointment or without appointment, refunded.
- 4Tests: pregnancy, VOCID-19 (antigenic), streptococcus, certain parameters. Quick, no appointment.
- 5Treatment monitoring: shared medication assessment (BPM) — the pharmacist analyses all your medications, checks interactions. Helpful in polymedication.
- 6Third party paying: the pharmacist applies CPAM + mutual directly. In case of doubt, he can refer you to a doctor.
- 7Reorientation: For serious symptoms, pharmacists refer to a doctor or emergency room. It does not replace the doctor in acute cases.
- 8On-call/on-line pharmacy: for non-emergency — online, for emergency — on-call (see dedicated guide).
Common mistakes
Section actions
- Believe the pharmacist treats everything. Only mild cases.
- Do not use pharmacist renewal — waste of time to the doctor.
- Do not report current allergies and medications — risk of interaction.
- Go to the doctor for what the pharmacist can do (tests, vaccination).
- Do not use polymedication BPM — lost safety.
