Who this guide is for

Section actions
  • All employees (wage is subject to PAS)
  • Self-employed and retired (PAS applies to their income)
  • Couples choosing between individual and common rates

To be prepared in advance

Section actions
  • Private space impots.gouv.fr

Step-by-step procedure

Section actions
  1. 1Check your rate on impots.gouv.fr in your particular space: this is the percentage your employer is withholding from the wage.
  2. 2The rate is transmitted to the employer by the taxes automatically; you have nothing to send to pay.
  3. 3For couples, choose the type of rate: individualized rate (each of its own, according to its income) or personalized rate (common).
  4. 4In case of a significant change (loss of employment, birth, divorce), ask for a discount on the rate to pay a realistic amount.
  5. 5Remember: the SAP is a collection mechanism, not a substitute for the return; the return remains annual and mandatory.

Common mistakes

Section actions
  • Believing that the SAP replaces the return.
  • Do not update the rate in case of income decline: you then pay too much.
  • Gross and net consolidation: the net is already after PAS.
