Who this guide is for

Section actions
  • If you are applying for a passport, a CNI, a residence permit or other secure document
  • You if you want to understand how to pay taxes online
  • You if you are asked to "buy a tax stamp" without precision

To be prepared in advance

Section actions
  • Identifier (tax number) or application number ANTS/ANEF
  • Credit card for online payment
  • The exact amount of the fee (depending on the procedure — see the guide concerned)

Step-by-step procedure

Section actions
  1. 1Check the amount and type of tax for your application. For example, adult passport ~86 €, employee title ~269 € (19 € stamp + tax OFII 250 €). Amounts and exemptions on ANTS and service-public.fr.
  2. 2Buy the stamp online on impots.gouv.fr (Buy tax stamps) or on ANTS. Choose the type (dematerialised stamp), the amount, pay by card.
  3. 3Receive the release number — the digital equivalent of the stamp. Paper stamps among the buralists are less and less accepted.
  4. 4Enter the clearance number in the ANTS/ANEF application at the payment stage. The system automatically links the payment to your file.
  5. 5Keep confirmation (PDF release) — in case of system control or error.
  6. 6Exemptions: certain categories (CSS beneficiaries, RSA, some students) are exempt or pay less. Check on service-public.fr.
  7. 7Reimbursement: if you have paid too much or the procedure is cancelled, ask for a refund via impots.gouv.fr (application form).

Common mistakes

Section actions
  • Buy a paper stamp when you need a digital — refusal.
  • Paying a bad amount — delay or overpayment.
  • Do not enter the clearance in the application — the file is not progressing.
  • Do not check the exemption — pay when not required.
  • Loss of release — difficult to prove payment in case of error.
